Professional Experience

A. Mental Health and Medical Social Work

Private practice. Provide mental health counseling to adults, couples, families, teens, and groups addressing a variety of issues including relationships, parenting and blended families, mood/anxiety disorders, grief/loss, PTSD/trauma, career/life transitions, medical/health concerns, domestic violence, alcohol/drug abuse, and sexual minorities. Contracts with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Managed Health Network and Child Welfare Services. April 1998 to present.

LifeWorks Northwest. Bilingual mental health counselor, medical social worker and clinical supervisor. Developed and implemented a new mental health services program in the Virginia Primary Care Garcia Memorial Health Center under a United Way Special Projects Grant in order to increase utilization of mental health services among Latinos and immigrants. Supervised advanced MSW student interns and master’s level therapists toward LCSW licensure. September 2004 to present.

Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital. Provided psychosocial, alcohol/drug, mental health evaluations and case management in emergency, psychiatric, pediatrics, adult, mother/baby, and oncology units. Provided crisis intervention, community advocacy and referrals to patients and families. Provided consultation, treatment recommendations and support to hospital medical staff. May 2000 to August 2003. Presently on-call.

B. Community Mental Health

• Catholic Community Services. Bilingual mental health counseling to children, adults, and families. March 2004-Sept 2004.
• Phoenix Rising Foundation. Provided mental health counseling to primarily sexual minority adults, teens and groups. Supervised MSW graduate student intern. Community education presentations regarding mental health and sexual minorities. Co-developed domestic violence intervention program for same-sex couples. Sept 1996-Sept 1999.
• William Temple House. Volunteered as mental health counselor in agency’s free counseling program for adults, couples and families. Sept 1997-May 1998.
Delaunay Family of Services. Advanced student practicum. Provided mental health counseling to adults, teens and families in an outpatient setting. Sept 1995-June 1996.

C. School Social Work

• Youth Contact. Student Assistance Program Coordinator. Provided administrative supervision to Student Assistance Counselors in Washington County middle and high schools. Developed support group curriculums and program policy manual. Generated quarterly service reports for program funders. Aug 1997- Oct 1998.

• Youth Contact. Student Assistance Counselor. Conducted mental health, alcohol/drug and
psychosocial evaluations of teens/families in a high school-based counseling program. Provided individual, group and family counselling in a school setting. D. Domestic Violence and Crisis Counseling

Provided crisis counselling, advocacy and referrals to women and children escaping the sex industry. Co-facilitated psycho-educational support groups for women attending program. Sept 1994-Aug 1995.
• Multnomah County Community Corrections. Domestic Violence Educational Class Facilitator. Developed and facilitated educational classes for women whose abusers were in the deferred sentencing program. March 1994-July 1995.
• Raphael House of Portland. Volunteer Program Coordinator. Recruited, trained and supervised volunteers for direct service in domestic violence shelter. Developed and co-facilitated support group for battered women. Provided case management support to direct service staff. July 1993-Aug 1994.
